The Role: As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with special educational needs within the classroom. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-on-one or small group support to students with diverse learning needs, enabling them to access the curriculum and reach their full potential.
  • Assisting the class teacher in planning and delivering individualized learning programs tailored to each student's abilities and requirements.
  • Creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment, fostering positive relationships with students and promoting their social and emotional development.
  • Collaborating with other teaching staff and professionals, such as therapists and educational psychologists, to ensure a coordinated and holistic approach to support.
  • Tracking and recording the progress of students, providing feedback to the teacher and SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) as necessary.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant or in a similar role is advantageous but not essential; a genuine passion for supporting students with special educational needs is key.
  • Understanding and empathy towards the diverse needs of students with various learning challenges.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff.
  • Patience, adaptability, and a positive attitude in challenging situations.
  • Relevant qualifications or training related to SEN support is beneficial but not mandatory.
