ASD Support Assistant

We are partnering with an ambitious school seeking a dedicated ASD Support Assistant to join their vibrant primary community. This pivotal role involves providing specialist support to young learners on the autism spectrum within a nurturing and structured provision. You will be instrumental in fostering an inclusive environment, implementing tailored strategies to enhance engagement and learning outcomes. We are offering a variety of contract options, including long-term placements, daily supply, short-term engagements, and even permanent positions for the right individual, commencing as soon as possible.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide tailored, person-centred support to primary pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
* Implement structured routines and visual aids to promote predictability and reduce anxiety.
* Develop and utilise effective sensory strategies to support pupils' regulation and engagement.
* Facilitate and enhance communication through various methods, including PECS or Makaton where appropriate.
* Collaborate closely with teachers and therapists to create individualised learning plans.
* Monitor pupil progress, providing valuable feedback to support ongoing development.
About You
* You possess a genuine passion for supporting children with special educational needs.
* Previous experience working with primary-aged pupils on the autism spectrum is highly desirable.
* You demonstrate excellent communication skills, capable of building rapport with children, staff, and families.
* An understanding of various communication strategies and sensory processing needs is essential.
* You are patient, resilient, and possess a proactive approach to problem-solving.
