Dunbar Education, a leading SEN recruitment agency, is working closely with a specialist SEN provision in Milton Keynes, seeking a dedicated Youth Worker/Learning Support Assistant. This is an exciting opportunity to work with secondary-age pupils who have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and display challenging behaviours.

Job Description

As a Youth Worker/Learning Support Assistant (LSA), you will play a vital role in supporting students with SEMH needs. You will:

  • Provide 1:1 and group support to secondary-age pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health difficulties, helping them engage with their learning and manage their behaviour effectively.
  • Develop trusting relationships with students to encourage positive behaviour, social skills, and emotional well-being.
  • Support classroom teachers in creating an inclusive learning environment and implementing individualised support plans.
  • Help students develop coping mechanisms for managing challenging situations.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, and other professionals to support the overall progress of the pupils.
  • Manage difficult situations with a calm, non-judgmental approach, promoting a safe and caring environment.

Key Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH and behavioural challenges is highly beneficial.
  • A kind, caring, and non-judgmental attitude is essential to support the emotional needs of the pupils.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations.
  • A DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
  • Full-time availability, Monday to Friday, 8 am - 5 pm (part-time applicants will not be considered).
