Speech & Language Specialist

Job Description

If you have experience as a SEN Assistant supporting children with Speech and Language then we are looking to find someone to start in September in a Primary School as a specialist!

About the Role:

As a Teaching Assistant specialising in Speech and Language Support, you will play a crucial role in helping the pupils develop their communication skills. You will work closely with the school's SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and speech and language therapists to implement individualised support plans, ensuring each child reaches their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to pupils with speech and language difficulties.
  • Implement tailored speech and language programs as directed by specialists.
  • Assist in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support class teachers by preparing resources and adapting materials for speech and language development.
  • Monitor and record pupils' progress, providing feedback to teachers and specialists.
  • Encourage and promote effective communication strategies within the classroom.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children in an educational setting, preferably with a focus on speech and language support.
  • Strong understanding of speech and language development in children.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to motivate and engage children.
  • A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant) is desirable but not essential.
