Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant

Dunbar Education is seeking a dedicated Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team at an SEN school in Corby. This school specialises in Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a supportive and dynamic environment, enabling access to high-quality education and promoting pupil well-being across various key stages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Teaching Staff: Work closely with teachers to support pupil learning and behaviour, enabling access to the curriculum.
  • Individual and Group Support: Assist in delivering tailored education plans for individual or small groups of pupils under the direction of the class teacher/form tutor.
  • Promote Pupil Well-being: Foster a safe, nurturing, and positive learning environment, ensuring the well-being of all pupils.
  • Child Protection: Ensure child protection, welfare, and well-being of pupils are maintained at all times.
  • Behavioural Support: Implement strategies to manage and improve pupil behaviour.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and any incidents that occur.
  • Communication: Liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals as needed.
  • Professional Development: Participate in training and professional development opportunities.

SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Support SEMH Pupils: Provide targeted support to pupils with SEMH needs, helping them develop coping strategies and emotional resilience.
  • Build Relationships: Establish positive, trusting relationships with SEMH pupils to encourage their engagement and participation.
  • Implement Interventions: Assist in implementing individual behaviour plans and therapeutic interventions designed to support SEMH pupils.
  • Monitor Progress: Track and report on the social, emotional, and academic progress of SEMH pupils.
  • Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate support and intervention during emotional or behavioural crises.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 6 months experience working with SEN pupils, particularly those with SEMH needs.
  • A valid DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a dedicated staff team.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting children with special educational needs.
