We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join our outstanding team at a Primary School in Northampton. This is an Ofsted 'Good' School with a supportive and experienced senior leadership team. The school is located in a deprived area with high levels of EAL (English as Additional Language) and behaviour issues, providing a unique and rewarding challenge for the right candidate.

Role Overview:
As a SEN Behaviour Support Mentor, you will provide 1:1 support to a child in Reception (5 years old) with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, focusing on managing challenging behaviour, which is verbally, not physically, challenging. You will create a supportive and positive learning atmosphere, working closely with the child, teachers and SENCO to implement individualised education plans (IEPs) and behavioural strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing 1:1 support and assistance to a pupil with SEMH needs, focusing on behavioural management and emotional regulation.
  • Assisting with the personal care and well-being of the student as required.
  • Utilising different methods to provide a positive and engaging environment.
  • Communicating effectively to provide regular feedback to teachers, parents and relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborating closely with teachers and SENCO to implement IEPs and behavioural strategies.

Requirements:

  • At least six months of SEN experience in the UK, particularly in behaviour support.
  • Child enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools) are preferred but not essential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Relevant qualifications in SEN support.
