About Us: Dunbar Education Recruitment Agency is proud to partner with an independent special school dedicated to supporting pupils with a range of social, emotional, and mental health difficulties. The pupils have often faced disrupted education, low attendance, and exclusions from mainstream education. Many have special educational needs, including social, emotional, and mental health difficulties, with additional challenges such as dyslexia, social communication difficulties, ADHD, autism, and Tourette's syndrome.

The Role: We are seeking a passionate and dedicated SEN Teacher/Tutor to join our team. You will provide professional 1:1 support and supervision for pupils aged 11-16, encouraging their engagement in the learning process and working towards agreed aims and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support and supervision to pupils, fostering their engagement in the learning process.
  • Manage and address behaviour challenges effectively.
  • Plan and teach high-quality lessons that support pupils in making good or outstanding progress, embedding key concepts in their long-term memory.
  • Set clear learning targets for pupils, building on their prior attainment and considering their individual needs.
  • Plan to meet the special educational needs of pupils, ensuring a personalised and inclusive learning experience.
  • Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to each pupil's specific needs.
  • Monitor and assess pupils' progress regularly, providing feedback and adjusting teaching strategies as necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with other teachers, support staff, and external agencies to provide a holistic approach to education and care.
  • Create a safe and supportive learning environment that fosters mutual respect and positive relationships.
  • Stay informed about the latest developments in SEN education and integrate best practices into your teaching.

Requirements:

  • Must have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Minimum of 6 months UK SEN experience.
  • Commitment to full-time work during term time.
  • Strong understanding of SEN best practices and strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain patient and resilient in challenging situations.
  • A genuine passion for working with pupils with special educational needs.
