Location: SEN School, Bedford
Salary: £18,000 - £23,000 per annum, depending on experience
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Start Date: October 2024

About the Role:

Dunbar Education is pleased to partner with a well-established SEN school in Bedford to recruit a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA). This position allows you to make a real difference for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school supports up to 25 students, ages 11-18, focusing on personalised education plans to bridge learning gaps and encourage personal development. The successful candidate will work with small groups of 8-10 pupils and join a supportive, community-focused team led by an involved headteacher. Strong experience working with SEN students is essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with teachers and staff to maintain effective communication and foster teamwork.
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of lessons by planning activities and organizing learning resources.
  • Support the assessment and monitoring of student progress.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group academic assistance to pupils as needed.
  • Develop and implement tailored strategies to help students with special educational needs.
  • Offer pastoral care, manage challenging behavior, and promote positive social interactions among students.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of the school's curriculum and the development of its policies.

Requirements:

  • At least 6 months of experience as an HLTA in the UK.
  • Must be a car user (Non-negotiable)
  • Experience working in schools, preferably as a HLTA or similar role.
  • Good understanding of SEN, especially SEMH.
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum and Key Stage requirements for SEN students.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work well with others.
  • Must have an enhanced DBS on the update service.
