Personal Care Teaching Assistant (Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Support)
Dunbar Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to work in a Secondary school supporting pupils with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of children who need tailored, one-to-one support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide personalised care and support to pupils with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. ensuring their educational and emotional needs are met.
- Assist with moving and handling, including using hoists and other equipment, to support pupils with physical disabilities in accordance with health and safety regulations.
- Support pupils with all aspects of personal care, ensuring that dignity and respect are maintained at all times.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to help implement individual education plans (IEPs) and care plans for each child.
- Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment where pupils feel valued and supported.
- Support the emotional and social development of pupils, helping them to engage with peers and participate in activities.
- Assist in monitoring pupil progress and communicating effectively with the teaching team to ensure the best possible outcomes.
- Carry out any additional duties that may arise in line with supporting the pupils' holistic development.
Essential Requirements:
- A care background is essential due to the need for experience in moving and handling, hoisting, and personal care.
- Moving and Handling training and Hoisting training are required.
- An Enhanced DBS on the update service or a willingness to apply for one.
- A compassionate, patient, and understanding nature, with the ability to work calmly under pressure.
Desirable but Not Essential:
- Previous experience working with children or young adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly those with complex physical needs and learning disabilities.
- Experience supporting individuals with communication difficulties, such as using alternative communication methods like Makaton, PECs, or assistive technology.
