PE Teacher for Secondary SEN Provision

Dunbar Education is currently recruiting for a passionate and dedicated Physical Education (PE) Teacher to join a Secondary SEN Provision. This provision supports pupils aged 11-17 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and behavioural challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • PE Instruction: Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality PE lessons that are accessible and engaging for students with SEMH and behavioural difficulties. Adapt activities to meet the diverse needs and abilities of the students.
  • Curriculum Development: Design and implement a dynamic PE curriculum that aligns with national standards while being flexible to accommodate the specific learning needs of students with SEMH.
  • Student Progress: Regularly assess student progress through both formative and summative assessments. Provide constructive feedback that encourages students to develop their physical skills and confidence.
  • Behaviour Management: Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment. Use effective behaviour management strategies to create a safe and supportive space for physical activity.
  • Individualised Support: Collaborate with teaching assistants and support staff to provide tailored support to each student, ensuring their individual needs are met both physically and emotionally.
  • Parental Engagement: Maintain regular communication with parents and carers, providing updates on student progress, addressing any concerns, and involving them in their child's physical education journey.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with the latest trends and best practices in physical education. Engage in continuous professional development to enhance your teaching skills and knowledge in the SEN sector.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with colleagues, including SENCOs and other specialists, to develop and implement effective teaching strategies and interventions that integrate physical education into the broader curriculum.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualifications: Must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience: A minimum of 6 months teaching Physical Education is required. Previous experience working with SEMH pupils is highly beneficial.
  • Commitment: This is a full-time position, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Part-time applicants will not be considered.
  • Compliance: Must hold an up-to-date DBS on the Update Service.
