Higher Level Teaching Assistant (Primary)

We are currently seeking a committed Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a Primary School , which caters to children aged 3 to 7 years old, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

Role Overview: As a HLTA, you will play a vital role in supporting the learning and development of young pupils, particularly those with additional needs. You will work under the guidance of a qualified teacher, providing tailored learning activities and support to help every child thrive.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver and adapt learning activities for individual pupils or small groups, ensuring each child's needs are met.
  2. Assess, monitor, and record pupils' progress, reporting back to the teacher on any challenges or achievements.
  3. Collaborate with the class teacher to plan and evaluate specialised learning activities, keeping accurate records as required.
  4. Choose and adapt resources and methods to enhance learning experiences.
  5. Support pupils' social and emotional well-being, addressing any concerns by liaising with the teacher.
  6. Offer specialised support to pupils with SEN, those for whom English is an additional language, gifted and talented pupils, or those needing help in specific subjects like literacy or numeracy.

Additional Duties:

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with families, carers, and external professionals such as speech therapists.
  • Provide supervision and cover for classes when necessary.
  • Supervise and mentor other support staff or trainees.
  • Manage and organise classroom materials and resources.
  • Assist with the supervision of pupils during lunch, breaks, and on educational trips.
  • Support pupils with daily tasks such as eating, dressing, and personal hygiene, fostering independence wherever possible.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and attend review meetings as needed.
  • Work with pupils who are not following the standard timetable to provide targeted support.

Requirements:

  • Level 4 HLTA qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in supporting and leading learning activities in a specialist area, such as SEN.
  • Strong problem-solving skills related to providing educational support.
  • Ability to plan and organise activities for sessions, days, or weeks.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to adapt your approach based on pupils' responses.
  • Familiarity with child protection policies, health and safety procedures, and the use of educational equipment.
