Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

The Role:

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join the team. This role involves working closely with a specific child who has communication and interaction needs as well as Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the child's educational journey, ensuring they feel safe, understood, and motivated to learn.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to a child with communication/interaction needs and SEMH needs.
  • Implement tailored learning strategies in collaboration with the class teacher and SENCO.
  • Assist in developing the child's social skills, emotional regulation, and self-esteem.
  • Facilitate the child's participation in classroom activities and school life.
  • Monitor and report on the child's progress, adapting support as necessary.
  • Build a trusting and supportive relationship with the child to foster a positive learning environment.
  • Work with external professionals (e.g., speech therapists, educational psychologists) as needed.

Key Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, ideally within an SEN setting.
  • Experience supporting children with communication/interaction needs and SEMH needs.
  • Understanding of strategies and interventions to support children with SEN.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards challenges.
  • A relevant qualification (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ) is desirable but not essential.
