Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with special educational needs? Dunbar Education is working closely with an SEN school in Milton Keynes, seeking a dedicated 1:1 Community Support Worker to provide individual learning and care support.
About the School:
The school caters to students aged 11-18, many of whom have autistic profiles alongside anxiety, speech, language, and communication barriers. Students thrive in a smaller, supportive environment where key workers play a vital role in helping them overcome obstacles to learning and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 support to a pupil with special educational needs (SEN), helping them work towards their Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes.
- Build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil, fostering high self-esteem, independence, and social inclusion.
- Demonstrate an informed and effective approach to teaching and learning by implementing relevant strategies that support the teacher's work and enhance the pupil's achievement.
- Contribute to the planning of differentiated learning activities, delivering them both inside and outside the classroom to meet individual needs.
- Support the teaching of a broad and balanced curriculum, helping the pupil reach their full potential across all areas of learning.
- Promote and facilitate inclusion by encouraging the pupil's active participation in learning, extracurricular activities, and community-based initiatives.
- Employ consistent and effective behaviour management strategies in line with the school's policies and procedures.
- Organise and manage the teaching space and resources to create a stimulating and safe learning environment.
- Monitor, record, and report on the pupil's progress and attainment, ensuring clear communication with relevant staff.
- Read and understand lesson plans shared before lessons, and plan how to support the inclusion of pupils in those learning activities.
- Plan and conduct key work sessions tailored to the individual needs of the students.
- Collaborate with the teacher to plan and deliver tailored learning activities, assisting in the development and execution of individual education, support, and care plans.
- Support the pupil's social, emotional, and mental health needs, escalating concerns when necessary.
- Assist with transitions, routines, and behaviour management both in the classroom and during community-based activities or alternative provisions.
Requirements:
- First-aid training (or willingness to complete it).
- Experience working in a school or other educational setting.
- Experience working with children or young people with SEN.
- Experience in planning and delivering learning activities is desirable.
- DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one.
