Role Overview:
We are looking for a passionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will be working with students who have a range of Special Educational Needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Specific Learning Difficulties and Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. You will provide both classroom-based support and 1:1 interventions, helping students access the curriculum and achieve their individual goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEN in both mainstream classes and specialist settings.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of personalised learning plans and support strategies, in collaboration with the SENCO, class teachers and other support staff.
  • Support students in managing their behaviour, using positive behaviour management techniques and promoting emotional regulation.
  • Adapt learning materials and resources to meet the specific needs of individual students.
  • Monitor and record student progress, offering regular feedback to teachers, the SENCO and parents/carers.
  • Encourage the development of students' social skills, independence and confidence both in and out of the classroom.
  • Work closely with the SENCO and other professionals (e.g., educational psychologists, speech and language therapists) to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
  • Support the delivery of intervention programmes tailored to students' needs, such as literacy, numeracy and social skills.
  • Assist with any physical or personal care needs that students may require during the school day.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with secondary-aged students with SEN in an educational setting.
  • A strong understanding of a range of SEN needs, particularly ASD, ADHD, and SEMH and the strategies used to support these.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and parents/carers.
  • Patience, empathy and resilience, with a genuine passion for helping young people succeed.
  • The ability to work flexibly, as part of a team and independently when required.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning, SEN-specific training) are desirable but not essential.
