GRADE: MPS / UPS
RESPONSIBLE TO: Curriculum Lead
PATTERN: Full time, Permanent
START DATE: January 2025


Key Purpose

To carry out the professional duties of a Geography teacher, as required and in accordance with the school's policies, under the direction of the line manager. The Geography department is a vital part of the curriculum. The successful candidate will be a specialist in Geography and may also teach an additional subject at KS3.


Teaching, Learning and Assessment:

  • Deliver consistently high-quality lessons that reflect the school's "Features of Great Teaching."
  • Share best practices within the curriculum team and beyond.
  • Support a successful learning environment by following the school's procedures (rewards and behaviour system).
  • Encourage positive standards in line with the school's values regarding kindness, punctuality, behaviour, work quality, and homework.
  • Mark and monitor students' work, setting clear targets for progress.
  • Assess and record students' progress systematically, ensuring work is understood and completed. Track strengths and weaknesses, inform planning, and monitor achievement levels.
  • Provide clear and informative verbal feedback to parents during consultation evenings, offering next steps for student development.

Pastoral Duties:

  • Take on the role of form tutor to an assigned group of students.
  • Promote the general progress and well-being of individual students and the tutor group.
  • Deliver the pastoral curriculum during form time.
  • Liaise with the pastoral team to ensure the effective implementation of the school's pastoral system.
  • Support student development by building strong relationships with students, parents, and supporting attendance and wellbeing.
  • Deliver Life Skills curriculum (PSHE) in line with school policy.
  • Recognise the importance of safeguarding in education and follow the school's Child Protection policy.
  • Take part in marketing and liaison activities such as Open Evenings, Parents' Evenings, and other events.
  • Take responsibility for your own professional development and duties in relation to school policies and practices.
  • Liaise effectively with parents and governors.
  • Work within the school's Health & Safety Policy.

Geography Duties:

  • Teach Geography to pupils at KS3 and KS4.
  • Teaching up to GCSE level in another subject may be advantageous.
  • Support pupils through the curriculum and provide additional opportunities for Geography, enabling excellent progress beyond expectations.
  • Maintain the highest aspirations and expectations for the quality of pupils' work.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the curriculum.
