Dunbar Education, a leading recruitment agency specialising in the education sector, is working closely with a dedicated SEN school seeking a passionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant. The pupils in this school have varying SEN needs, including SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health), ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), and ADHD.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored support to students with special educational needs (SEN), ensuring they have equal access to the curriculum.
- Assist the class teacher with lesson planning and preparation, adapting resources and strategies to meet individual student needs.
- Work closely with other professionals, including SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), therapists, and external agencies, to ensure the best possible outcomes for the pupils.
- Encourage positive behaviour management techniques and implement individual behaviour plans to support the emotional and social development of the students.
- Monitor and record student progress, reporting back to the teacher and SENCO, and contributing to the creation of individual education plans (IEPs).
- Support pupils with personal care when necessary, ensuring dignity and respect at all times.
- Participate in school-wide activities and initiatives aimed at promoting inclusion and positive relationships between students.
Requirements:
- Must be available to work full-time, term time only (no part-time positions available).
- Minimum of 6 months of experience working with SEN students in a school or similar setting.
- Knowledge and understanding of SEN conditions, particularly SEMH, ASD, and ADHD.
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour using de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement.
- A DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one.
