Special Education Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA)

Job Description

Dunbar Education are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join a fantastic SEN school, which supports pupils aged 2 to 19 years with severe learning difficulties, including singular or multiple disabilities. We enjoy strong relationships with parents, families, professionals, and the local community, and offer an excellent range of resources and facilities to make learning accessible and education enjoyable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Class Teacher in planning and delivering tailored educational activities for children with severe learning difficulties.
  • Provide 1:1 or small group support to pupils, adapting materials and approaches to meet individual needs.
  • Support pupils in personal care tasks where necessary, and help facilitate safe and engaging swimming sessions at least once a week.
  • Encourage positive social interactions and behaviour management strategies.
  • Assist in monitoring and recording pupil progress and development.
  • Supervise pupils during break times and accompany them on outings or educational trips as required.
  • Actively engage in team meetings, contributing to planning and review discussions.
  • Participate in an after-school club one day per week (3.30pm - 5.15pm).

Knowledge, Experience, and Training:

  • Experience of working with or caring for children with severe or complex learning difficulties.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills (GCSE level or equivalent).
  • Basic knowledge of first aid, with the willingness to undergo training if needed.
  • Competence with modern technology, including the use of a photocopier, video recorder, and personal computer.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, following the direction of the Class Teacher and collaborating with colleagues.

Additional Information:

  • Contract: 34 hours per week, Monday to Friday, term-time (43.6 weeks per year)
  • Working Hours: 8.45am to 3.45pm, including a 30-minute lunch break
  • Swimming Requirement: Participate in swimming activities with pupils once a week.
  • After-School Club: One club per week (3.30pm to 5.15pm)
