Location: Towcester, Northamptonshire

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

Start Date: September 2024

Role Overview:

We are looking for a committed and skilled School Cook to join our team at an exceptional independent special school dedicated to supporting students aged 11-16 facing a range of social, emotional, and mental health challenges. The successful candidate will take charge of preparing, cooking, and serving meals and snacks to an excellent standard, ensuring our pupils receive nutritious and appealing food each day. Many of these students have special educational needs, including ADHD, autism, Tourette's syndrome, dyslexia, and social communication difficulties, and they often experience disrupted educational journeys characterized by low attendance and/or exclusions from mainstream education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain high standards of health, hygiene and safety, following school policies.
  • Oversee food management, including stock checks and proper use of equipment.
  • Cook and serve breakfast, lunch and snacks.
  • Manage food waste during preparation and cooking.
  • Ensure regular cleaning of kitchen equipment, surfaces, floors and storage areas.
  • Conduct daily checks, including temperature monitoring during food handling
  • Support students in work-based kitchen learning.
  • Immediately report any accidents, near misses, or damages.
  • Complete additional tasks as required.

Requirements:

  • Level 3 Food Hygiene or equivalent
  • Valid DBS on update Service.
  • Certification in First Aid (desirable)
  • Certification in Health and Safety, including knowledge of COSHH regulations, safe storage and working practices (desirable)
  • Experience of food preparation in a school setting
  • Awareness of child protection and safeguarding procedures
