About the School:

Dunbar Education is proud to partner with an exceptional independent special school dedicated to supporting pupils aged 11-16 with a range of social, emotional, and mental health difficulties. The pupils often have histories of disrupted education, including low attendance and/or exclusion from mainstream education. Many also have special educational needs, including social communication difficulties, ADHD, autism, Tourette's syndrome, and dyslexia.

Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced School Cook to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation, cooking, and serving of meals and snacks to a high standard, ensuring our pupils receive nutritious and appealing food each day.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, cook, and present breakfast, lunch, and break time snacks.
  • Ensure routine and specialized cleaning of kitchen equipment, work surfaces, kitchen floors, and storage areas.
  • Control waste in preparation and cooking processes.
  • Maintain the highest standards of health, hygiene, and safety, adhering to school policies and health and safety guidelines.
  • Manage and control all food, including receiving and checking stock, and ensuring equipment and materials are used correctly.
  • Collect routine data as required, and ensure all daily checks, including temperature control during production, preparation, service, and storage, are properly carried out.
  • Report all accidents, near misses, damage, or breakages immediately.
  • Support students with work-based learning in the kitchen environment.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills:

  • Level 3 Food Hygiene
  • Certification in First Aid
  • Certification in Health and Safety, including knowledge of COSHH regulations, safe storage, and working practices
  • Experience of food preparation in a school setting
  • Awareness of child protection and safeguarding procedures

Non-Negotiable Requirements:

  • Experience in food preparation and cooking within a catering environment
  • DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one
