School Caretaker Position

Location: Great Missenden
Salary: £24,879 - £29,295

Start Date: September 2024 or earlier
Working Hours: Monday to Friday

Are you dedicated to maintaining a safe and conducive environment for teaching and learning? We are seeking a Caretaker to join our committed team. Your role will involve caretaking, security, and maintenance of our site, ensuring it meets high standards of safety and functionality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct various maintenance duties to ensure the general upkeep of the premises, as per the schedule.
  • Implement and manage decoration programmes in coordination with the Site Manager.
  • Perform improvement tasks such as erecting shelves, notice boards, and bookshelves.
  • Identify and record repair and maintenance needs.
  • Manage waste disposal and undertake cleaning duties, including graffiti removal and litter-picking.
  • Coordinate supplies lists and deliveries.
  • Maintain and update records, information, and data.
  • Promote and ensure the health and safety of students, staff, and visitors.
  • Demonstrate and assist in the safe and effective use of specialist equipment and materials.
  • Respond promptly to helpdesk requests for repairs and maintenance.
  • Prioritise workload based on health and safety concerns and academy needs.
  • Liaise with external contractors on site.
  • Ensure the needs of hirers during evenings are met.
  • Perform project work, minor plumbing repairs, and site maintenance as directed.
  • Act as a designated key holder, responsible for secure locking and unlocking of the site.
  • Complete relevant health and safety courses.
  • Conduct health and safety checks in compliance with legislation.
  • Work closely with other site team members to provide excellent customer service.
  • Provide cover for team members in their absence in collaboration with the Estates Manager.

Stock and Performance Management:

  • Maintain appropriate stock levels to meet demand.
  • Participate in the academy's performance appraisal system.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Recognised Health and Safety qualification (Essential)
  • GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Desirable)
  • Experience working as part of a team, prioritising actions, and within a trade or facilities management environment (Essential)
  • Experience in school caretaking, cleaning duties, and routine maintenance and repairs (Desirable)

Professional Skills and Personal Qualities:

  • Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements (Essential)
  • ICT literacy (Desirable)
  • Good listening, customer service, and communication skills (Essential)
  • Ability to work professionally with stakeholders and external agencies (Essential)
  • Physically fit and able to undertake manual handling tasks (Essential)
  • Organised with good time management skills and attention to detail (Essential)
  • Willingness to learn and enjoy working with young people (Essential)
  • Ability to drive (minibus licence) (Desirable)
