Dunbar Education are currently working with an independent girls school who are now seeking a Teacher of Maths to join their team from January, either full or part time (0.6 at the minimum). If this could be of interest, please see below for further details;

Contract: Permanent, full time (open to 0.6 part time)

Mathematics is one of the most popular and successful subjects at this school. As of September 2024, the Department consists of 11 experienced members of staff, (6 full-time, 3 part-time and 2 individual tutors), including the Head of Department and Second in Department.

The department has five dedicated classrooms and one smaller room mainly used for Sixth Form teaching, as well as a Mathematics Workroom and a Head of Department's Office. All of the dedicated classrooms have interactive whiteboards, and one is equipped with 20-networked PC's. The school is a Microsoft Showcase School and as such all pupils use Microsoft Surfaces and the Department makes extensive use of OneNote and Teams as well as other appropriate apps/software.

Mathematics is a popular option in the Sixth Form. Currently they have 23 pupils in the L6th studying Edexcel A Level Mathematics, 10 of whom are also studying Further Mathematics. Pupils are entered for the UK Mathematics Challenges at all levels and they also prepare pupils for STEP and Oxford Entrance according to demand.

JOB PURPOSE

  • To share in the teaching of the Mathematics curriculum in the appropriate years.
  • To be able to teach Mathematics at all levels including GCSE and A-Level and to be responsible to the Head of Department for this.
  • To be a tutor responsible to the Housemistress of the year group, for the pastoral care and monitoring of the academic progress of a group of pupils.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To the pupils:

  • To prepare and give lessons in line with the agreed syllabus and schemes of work.
  • To stimulate and encourage students to a high standard of interest and achievement in the subject, ensuring that the needs of each individual are met.
  • To mark and assess pupils' work in line with School and departmental requirements, and to record assessments in accordance with the department's and the School's policies.
  • To maintain a record of work (including preparations) in sufficient detail for the Head of Department.
