Dunbar Education is thrilled to be working closely with a leading SEN school in Bedford that is dedicated to providing exceptional education and support to students aged 11-18 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. We are currently seeking a compassionate and skilled Level 3 SEN Teaching Assistant to join their dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborative Support: Work closely with class teachers to plan and implement effective teaching and learning programmes for individuals, groups, and the entire class.
  • Class Supervision: Supervise whole classes and undertake pre-planned activities in the absence of the class teacher.
  • Tailored Learning: Assist in delivering tailored learning activities that cater to each student's unique needs.
  • Inclusive Environment: Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes the development and growth of students with SEN.
  • IEP Implementation: Help implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behaviour management strategies.
  • Progress Monitoring: Observe and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and other stakeholders as necessary.
  • Assessment Support: Administer and support both formal and informal assessments to gauge student progress and inform teaching strategies.
  • Personal Care: Provide personal care and support for students with additional needs.

Additional SEMH Responsibilities:

  • Behaviour Management: Implement strategies to promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Social & Emotional Development: Support students in developing social and emotional skills, offering guidance and encouragement.
  • Crisis Intervention: Utilise de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention strategies to address challenging behaviour.
  • Collaboration: Work with the SENCO and external agencies to develop and implement behaviour support plans tailored to individual student needs.

Requirements:

  • Level 3 SEN TA qualification
  • Previous experience working with students with SEMH needs is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience working in a UK SEN setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and under supervision.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with SEN.
