About the role:
The school are seeking to appoint an inspirational and outstanding teacher to the position of Geography Teacher with the option of Head of department or Head of year with the role.
The successful candidate will join our flourishing and successful Humanities Faculty and will be part of an ambitious, committed and experienced team. The ability to teach the subject at Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 is essential and previous experience of teaching A Level is an advantage. The Department follows the AQA Specifications at GCSE and A Level.
They aim to provide a Geography curriculum which promotes interest and curiosity in the world around us and inspires a sense of shared responsibility for the planet we live in. As students progress from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5, they experience a broad curriculum that develops the knowledge and geographical skills required to understand the human and physical processes that have shaped the places they have visited and those they are inspired to experience in the future.
They learn key skills and processes that will enable them to appreciate the interactions between the Human and Physical worlds. Contemporary geographical issues ranging from a local development proposal to global climate change are woven throughout the curriculum. The Department recognises the value of fieldwork in developing understanding of the route to enquiry and linking theory with reality.
Trips include a visit to Kew Gardens in Year 8, a fieldwork study day in Year 9 and an annual residential field course in Year 11 and Year 12. The Department is looking forward to visiting Iceland with a range of Key Stage 4 and 5 students in April 2024.
