About the Role
We are seeking an inspirational and dynamic Head of Science Faculty to lead and manage the Science department at a successful secondary school in the Bedford area. The successful candidate will have the passion and expertise to drive the faculty forward, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all science disciplines, while fostering an engaging and inclusive environment for both students and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, manage, and inspire the Science Faculty, ensuring continuous improvement in teaching standards and student outcomes.
- Develop and implement an innovative and ambitious curriculum that meets the needs of all learners, from KS3 to KS5.
- Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching, learning, and assessment, ensuring consistency and excellence.
- Foster a positive and collaborative learning environment, supporting staff development through mentoring and professional growth opportunities.
- Analyse student progress and implement strategies to raise achievement and close gaps in attainment.
- Manage departmental resources effectively, ensuring the science labs and equipment are used safely and efficiently.
- Liaise with senior leadership and contribute to the whole-school strategy and development.
- Promote and encourage extracurricular science activities, including STEM initiatives.
Essential Requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in a Science-related discipline.
- Proven experience in a leadership role within a secondary school, with a track record of improving student outcomes.
- In-depth knowledge of the UK Science curriculum, including recent developments in STEM education.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to inspire both students and staff.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage time and resources effectively.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Desirable:
- Experience in leading science-related extracurricular activities.
- A postgraduate qualification in education or leadership.
- Experience in curriculum development and implementing innovative teaching strategies.
