About the Role:
Dunbar Education is recruiting on behalf of an exceptional SEN provision in Milton Keynes, supporting young people aged 11-17 with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The Provision is committed to offering a tailored, nurturing environment where students can develop their academic abilities and personal resilience. We are looking for an experienced Geography Teacher to join the team, bringing expertise and a passion for working with students facing significant behavioural and emotional challenges. This role allows you to make a meaningful impact, using Geography as a tool to engage and inspire students, develop their skills, and open their minds to new perspectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver Engaging Geography Lessons: Plan and deliver interactive Geography lessons tailored to meet the needs of students with SEMH challenges. Utilise creative teaching methods to make the subject accessible and captivating, encouraging curiosity and active participation.
- Individualised Learning Plans: Adapt lessons and materials to accommodate a range of abilities, learning styles, and behavioural needs. This includes creating differentiated lesson plans, incorporating hands-on activities, and using real-world examples to make Geography relevant and relatable.
- Behavioural and Emotional Support: Use effective behaviour management strategies to create a positive, safe learning environment. Build strong relationships with students, fostering mutual respect and understanding, and encouraging them to develop positive attitudes towards learning.
- Collaborate with SEN Staff: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including SEN specialists, teaching assistants, and support staff, to monitor student progress and address individual needs. Regularly share insights and strategies to promote a holistic approach to student development.
What You'll Do:
- Structured Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, with no planning required at home, ensuring a healthy work-life balance.
- Classroom-Based Focus: With planning and assessment requirements kept within working hours, focus on providing impactful, hands-on classroom teaching.
- Positive Influence: Serve as a mentor and role model, encouraging students to set goals and work toward achieving them, building resilience and self-confidence.
Ideal Candidate:
We are seeking a Geography Teacher with a solid background in teaching and the ability to manage complex behaviours with resilience, patience, and compassion. Your dedication to each student's progress, strong subject knowledge, and empathetic approach will be essential in helping these students thrive.
Essential Requirements:
- Subject Expertise: A proven track record of teaching Geography with enthusiasm, creativity, and a strong understanding of curriculum requirements.
- DBS Requirement: An enhanced DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one is required.
- Behaviour Management Skills: Experience managing challenging behaviours and a commitment to fostering a respectful, safe, and positive classroom environment.
