Job Overview

Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Learning
- Plan and deliver high-quality English lessons that inspire, challenge, and meet the needs of all students.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment where every student feels valued and motivated to succeed.
- Use a variety of teaching strategies to ensure that lessons are engaging, interactive, and differentiated to suit varying abilities.
- Ensure effective assessment for learning practices, providing students with constructive feedback to guide their progress.
- Prepare students for success in GCSE English Language and Literature examinations.
Curriculum Development
- Contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of the English curriculum, ensuring it is current, creative, and aligned with national standards.
- Incorporate a wide range of texts, including classic literature, contemporary fiction, poetry, and non-fiction, to develop students' critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Encourage a love of reading and writing, and support students' development in literacy across the curriculum.
Student Achievement and Progress
- Monitor and track student progress, identifying areas where additional support or challenge is needed.
- Use data to inform planning and intervention, ensuring all students are making progress toward their targets.
- Provide tailored support to students, including those with special educational needs, to ensure every student can achieve their best.
Wider Contribution
- Engage with parents, carers, and colleagues to ensure the best outcomes for students.
- Contribute to whole-school activities and initiatives, such as literacy programmes, extracurricular clubs, and student enrichment activities.
- Participate in regular CPD to keep up to date with pedagogical developments and enhance your teaching practice.
- Uphold the school's values, ensuring a positive learning experience for all students and contributing to the wider school community.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a degree in English or a related field.
- A strong understanding of the National Curriculum for English, with experience teaching at KS3 and KS4.
- A passion for teaching English and the ability to inspire a love of reading, writing, and critical thinking in students.
- Excellent classroom management skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students of all abilities.
- Commitment to high expectations for all students, with a focus on helping each individual reach their full potential.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience teaching at Key Stage 5 (A-Level English Literature or Language).
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a desire to contribute to the wider school community.
- A willingness to take on extracurricular activities related to English, such as debate clubs, creative writing, or reading groups.
