We are seeking a passionate and experienced ASDAN Tutor/Teacher to join our partner SEN school in Bedford. The school caters to students aged 11-18 of all genders, predominantly from SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) backgrounds. Students are taught by stage, not age, in key stages, to ensure that gaps in learning and attainment are addressed before advancing to the next level. With a focus on holistic personal growth, each student has a dedicated key worker, ensuring they have the support needed to flourish academically and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Delivery: Deliver engaging and tailored lessons aligned with the ASDAN qualification framework, ensuring lessons meet the individual learning needs of students with SEMH profiles.
- Student Engagement: Develop differentiated learning strategies that encourage active participation and help bridge gaps in understanding, ensuring that all students are supported in achieving their learning goals.
- Assessment and Monitoring: Conduct regular assessments and tracking of student progress, participating in the school's assessment cycles and standardisation meetings as required by exam boards.
- Pastoral Care: Provide pastoral support to students, developing strong, trusting relationships and acting as a positive role model.
- Lesson Planning: Plan and prepare lessons that are engaging, inclusive, and focused on helping students develop both academically and personally.
- Collaborative Working: Work closely with other staff members, SEN specialists, and external professionals to provide comprehensive educational and emotional support to students.
- Behavioural Management: Use positive behaviour management techniques, ensuring a supportive and safe learning environment where students feel valued and motivated to succeed.
- Parental and Stakeholder Engagement: Build effective relationships with parents, carers, and external stakeholders to ensure a consistent approach in supporting students.
- Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development, staying up to date with best practices in SEN teaching, ASDAN qualifications, and SEMH support.
Qualifications and Experience Required:
- A relevant degree (desirable)
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLLS) for teachers
- Willingness to work towards QTS for tutors
- Minimum of 2 years' teaching experience, ideally in a SEND environment
- Proven experience delivering ASDAN qualifications to students
- Strong understanding of the National Curriculum, particularly the ASDAN curriculum
