Job Description

Location: Hackney
Role: Librarian

Salary: on a point scale range of point 26 - 30. This being: Pro Rata: £27,827- £31,166 (FTE: £32,701 - £36,624).
Hours: 08:30am - 16:30pm

About the school:
We are currently seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Academy Librarian to join a vibrant educational community in Hackney, London. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in promoting a love for reading and fostering a positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain the school library, ensuring it is a welcoming and inclusive space for students.
  • Encourage and support reading initiatives, book clubs, and literacy programs.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to integrate library resources into the curriculum.
  • Assist students and staff in finding and accessing relevant learning materials.
  • Organize and maintain the library's collection, including cataloging and shelving books.
  • Stay current with educational trends and recommend new materials to enhance the collection.
  • Plan and host library events, such as author visits and reading challenges.
  • Promote digital literacy by providing access to online resources and technology.
  • Inspire a passion for literature and lifelong learning in students.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Library Science or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Previous experience working in a school library or similar educational setting.
  • Strong organizational and cataloging skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for promoting literacy and a love of reading.
  • Knowledge of library management software and digital resources.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and parents.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
