Behaviour Support Assistant

Are you passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of young people? A pupil referral unit in the High Wycombe area is looking for a dedicated and resilient behaviour support assistant to join their supportive team.

As a behaviour support assistant, you will work with students who have been excluded from mainstream education or require additional support to help them re-engage with learning. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who thrives in a challenging environment and wants to contribute meaningfully to students’ development.

Key responsibilities of the behaviour support assistant role:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with behavioural needs

  • Assist in managing challenging behaviours using a calm and consistent approach

  • Support students both in and outside of the classroom environment

  • Work alongside teaching staff and other professionals to implement individual behaviour plans

  • Build trusting relationships to help students achieve their educational and personal goals

  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and structured learning environment

  • Promote positive behaviour strategies and restorative practices

What we’re looking for in a behaviour support assistant:

  • Experience working with children or young people with behavioural needs (in school or alternative settings)

  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach

  • Ability to manage behaviour in a consistent and professional manner

  • Resilience and the ability to remain composed in challenging situations

  • A team player who can communicate effectively with staff and students alike

  • A genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers to learning
